Sofyan Amrabat will not go to Tottenham this winter. Announced close to an agreement with the Premier League club, the Moroccan international will still have to take his troubles patiently at Fiorentina.
Bad news never comes alone. After being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations with the national team, Sofyan Amrabat will not be able to discover the joys of the English championship either with Tottenham.
According to the Italian press, the Spurs who were close to recruiting the Moroccan midfielder, finally decided to abandon the track.
Calciomercato had claimed just days ago that Amrabat was set to join Tottenham on loan with an option to buy for €9m.
Amrabat emerged as a shock target for Tottenham last week with Antonio Conte keen to add a new midfielder.
The Italian technician had previously targeted Amrabat, looking to sign him for Inter Milan in 2019. Moreover, Jose Mourinho reportedly wanted the Atlas Lion to join Tottenham around the same time after being impressed with his performances at Verona.
However, the Premier League giants are now moving forward with a decision to sign Juventus talent Rodrigo Bentancur instead.
Sofyan Amrabat has struggled to establish himself since his 2020 move to Fiorentina and hasn’t made the squad in four consecutive games. He has featured in 11 of his club’s 22 Serie A games.
