Six people drowned while trying to immigrate illegally from the coast of the town of Iaazzanene in the province of Nador on Friday, local authorities said.

Some 54 candidates for illegal immigration, including a person of Tunisian nationality, tried to reach, by swimming, a zodiac off the sea which was heading for the beach of El Kallat in the municipality of Iaazzanene, notes the same source, adding that the difficult weather conditions, the high waves and the inability of the smuggler to maneuver after the boat’s collision with rocks led to the drowning of six people, while 48 others managed to reach the beach. land.

As soon as they were informed of the incident, the local authorities and the services of the Royal Gendarmerie and Civil Protection, accompanied by medical teams, intervened to provide first aid to these people, retrieve the bodies and comb the region in search of other victims.

An investigation was carried out by elements of the Royal Gendarmerie under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office to elucidate the circumstances of this case and determine the possible ramifications of this criminal activity, according to the same source.
