Local authorities and security services in the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region on Friday thwarted attempts at irregular emigration, leading to the arrest of several individuals.
In the province of Laâyoune, two groups made up of 106 candidates for illegal immigration were arrested, while they were watching for the right moment to set sail for the Canary Islands, we learned from the local authorities.
Another operation carried out by the security services in the commune of Foum El Oued led to the abortion of an illegal emigration attempt as well as the seizure of a motogodille.
South of the port of Laâyoune, 75 illegal immigrants were arrested, in addition to the seizure of an inflatable boat.
On the same day, local authorities and security services thwarted an attempt to emigrate illegally to the southwest of the town of Boujdour. This operation led to the arrest of 21 candidates and the seizure of an artisanal boat.
Also in the province of Boujdour, the abortion of an attempted illegal emigration in the locality of Kayasse, located to the north of the city, resulted in the seizure of an inflatable boat, a motorized boat, as well as 08 barrels of gasoline.
In the province of Tarfaya, the local authorities and the security services carried out an operation in the locality of Naila, located southwest of Akhfenir, which allowed the arrest of 35 candidates, and the seizure of inflatable boats and a motogodille.
On Wednesday, another attempt at irregular emigration was thwarted in the town of Assouirou north of the city of Tarfaya, having resulted in the arrest of 06 illegal immigrants and the seizure of an inflatable boat and a motogodille.
The local authorities and the security services of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra have recently intensified operations to control attempts to irregular emigration in the region, which have allowed the arrest of several candidates and the rescue of drifting boats.
