AC Milan beat (1-0) Naples in the clash of the 28th day of Serie A on Sunday evening. A crucial duel for the title race during which the Frenchman Olivier Giroud distinguished himself by scoring the winning goal.
After a very lackluster first period with a rhythm cut short by numerous fouls, the Milanese picked up the pace against an uninspired Neapolitan team, only scoring two shots over the whole game. For the first time since 1981, the Rossoneri have a second consecutive success at the Diego-Maradona Stadium.
Olivier Giroud stood out perfectly in the Neapolitan area to take the deflected shot from Davide Calabria and thus deceive David Ospina with his left foot (49th).
While he was hit in the ankle in the first period, the French striker remained on the lawn until his exit (68th). A suitable decision by coach Stefano Pioli since Giroud undermined the defensive organization of Naples, allowing Rafael Leao, Franck Kessié and Junior Messias to take up space, especially on the left side of Mário Rui.
With this victory, AC Milan regains the lead in the standings, two points ahead of its Milanese rival. Nevertheless, Inter still have a late game to play against Bologna.
