“I would like, on behalf of all Senegalese, to thank the Kingdom of Morocco for what it is doing to strengthen the cultural dynamic in the continent”he said in his address at the inaugural conference of the 27th edition of the International Publishing and Book Fair (SIEL), which celebrates African literature this year.
“Culture is peace, openness and tolerance”added Abdoulaye Diop, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the African Union, believing that Morocco best serves these noble values.
He also noted that African publishers and writers play, through their individual and collective action, an important role in creating a collective symbiosis on the continent.
The Minister also stressed the importance of strengthening South-South cooperation in the cultural field, saying that Senegal, through political will and effective membership, is working to achieve this objective.
On the other hand, Abdoulaye Diop, who participated in the official inauguration ceremony of this fair, recalled the excellent relations between Morocco and Senegal, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI and HE President Macky Sall. .
According to the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, the choice of African literature as guest of honor at the 27th SIEL (02-12 June) reflects the multidimensional links between Moroccan culture and the cultures of brotherly African countries and is in line with the enlightened vision of HM King Mohammed VI for the promotion of South-South cooperation.
SIEL 2022 addresses, through several activities, the inventory and prospects of African literature in terms of writing, publishing and distribution, and is an opportunity to meet writers and intellectuals. from different African countries, while exhibiting the latest publications from several African publishing houses.
It should be noted that this edition, organized at the OLM Souissi space in partnership with the Wilaya of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, the Council of the region of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and the Municipality of Rabat, constitutes a consecration for this city as as cultural capital of the Kingdom, African capital of culture and capital of culture in the Islamic world for the year 2022.
