Salah wins best player of the season award

Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah won the Player of the Year award from the Football Players Union in England (PFA) on Thursday.

The 29-year-old Egyptian, who finished top scorer (23) and top assist (13) in the Premier League, succeeds Manchester City’s Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne.

“It’s always great to win trophies, whether individual or collective. That one is very important to win, especially because it is awarded by the players,” Salah explained in an interview with the PFA.

“As an individual, it shows that you have worked very hard and you get what you have worked for, in a way,” he explained.

Although they came 2nd in the league, one point behind Manchester City, Liverpool provide half of the standard team of the season with six players including goalkeeper Alisson Becker, defenders Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, midfielder Thiago Alcantara and its two attackers, Sadio Mané and Salah.

The Citizens settled for three positions, De Bruyne being accompanied by Joao Cancelo and Bernardo Silva, while Antonio Rüdiger, of Chelsea, and Cristiano Ronaldo, at the top, complete the ideal eleven.
