Saint-Pierre Cathedral is celebrating its 100th anniversary!

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Saint-Pierre Cathedral, the French Institute of Morocco is joining forces with the Bishopric of Rabat by organizing an artistic installation, mapping show on June 24 and 25, 2022 inside the building. , under the theme ” Weave a fire “.

Inaugurated on November 17, 1921, Saint-Pierre Cathedral has accompanied and witnessed the great political, cultural and social changes in Morocco and is undeniably part of the cultural and historical heritage of the Capital.

It is the work of the architect Adrien Laforgue, to whom we also owe the Post Office and the Rabat-ville station as well as the former Palais de Justice (current Parliament) and the Source (currently Al Mowafaqa) and is inscribed in an architectural tradition specific to the city of Rabat, a fruitful dialogue between the Arab-Muslim tradition and Western art deco modernism, explains the French Institute of Morocco in a press release.

Located at the crossroads of the two Rabat tramway lines, the Saint-Pierre cathedral thus expresses its ambition to be part of both its tradition and that of the Moroccan society in which it has chosen to take its place for a century now. .

Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Cathedral means bringing the public together around the values of dialogue and sharing that characterize it. For this, the French Institute has called on a young Moroccan collective, winner of the digital lab, the architectural agency Method, to translate this notion of solidarity or how to weave links through the fire that brings together“, confides the IFM.

This light installation is a celebration of the past and future evolution of the monument with the city and the communities that co-exist there, argues the IFM noting that the projection will focus on visual experiences derived from representations of fire such as flames, ashes, smoke, heat, lights…

To attend the cathedral’s anniversary on June 24 and 25, 2022, those interested are invited to go inside Saint-Pierre Cathedral in Rabat from 9 p.m.
