The Algerian regime is trying to gather support in Europe after Spain’s support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative. An Algerian diplomat invited and briefed a group of European parliamentarians before sending them to visit the Tindouf camps.
Rejecting its role in the regional conflict around the Sahara before international bodies, Algeria, which affirms that the dispute is between Morocco and the Polisario only, nevertheless continues to pull the strings of the conflict.
On Monday, the one who was appointed by the Algerian Foreign Affairs Department as “Special Envoy for Western Sahara and the Maghreb countries” and who incidentally harbors an assumed hatred for Morocco, was the one who led a meeting with a European parliamentary group originally supposed to meet a representative of the Sahrawi separatists.
Algeria has taken matters into its own hands and is now only distilling, through Amar Belani, the hostile discourse on Morocco that the MEPs of the “Intergroup for Western Sahara in the European Parliament” must hold, they were made to repeat before to take off for the unsanitary camps of Tindouf.
The delegation of MEPs was led by its current president, the Austrian Socialist Andreas Schieder. With Amar Belani, she had “rich and fruitful discussions on the latest developments relating to the Western Sahara file and exchanged views and analyzes on the latest developments in the region”, indicates the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a communicated.
As a reminder, “the Intergroup for Western Sahara in the European Parliament” had another president before Andreas Schieder. It was the German Joachim Schuster who resigned after realizing the malicious intentions of the polisario following their announcement of the end of the ceasefire on November 13, 2020, preceded by the armed blockade of the point of passage of El Guerguerat.
Aware of the Polisario’s staging, the German announced his resignation in a letter in which he said that the Polisario had made “a serious strategic error” and that this was not “in favor of the Saharawi people”.
