The Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, chaired Friday in Tangier, the inauguration of the “XL High Speed Press”, the new high-precision technological stamping line of the Renault plant in Tangier, a first in Africa.
On this occasion, he affirmed that the Moroccan automotive sector is steadily entering a new era in its history, marked by the rise of skills, technology and decarbonization.
“With the industrialization of new vehicle models in Morocco, including electrified vehicles, the Moroccan automotive sector is steadily entering a new era in its history marked by the rise of skills, technology and decarbonization” , he said.
The integration rate of the automotive industry in Morocco stood at 63% in 2021, with the objective of reaching 80% in the long term, “which will make it possible to transform the Kingdom into the most competitive platform in the world”, the minister further indicated, stressing the driving role of the Renault ecosystem in the development of a supply platform and a global industrial export base in Morocco.
“Between Morocco and Renault, it’s a success story that continues. Today, we are celebrating a new milestone with the launch of the implementation of the ‘XL High Speed Press’ stamping line, the first in Africa and fifth globally, as well as the production of the 2.2 millionth vehicle. at the Renault Tangier plant, ”he noted.
These are large-scale projects that have succeeded in defying the constraints of the health crisis and those of electronic components, thanks to the mobilization of all: local automotive players, particularly Groupe Renault Maroc, the public authorities and the various partners and operators. sector, noted the minister, emphasizing the importance, including at the strategic level, which is given to the quality and well-being of the group’s human resources in Morocco, which are cited as an example not only in the Kingdom , but internationally.
In this context, Mezzour praised the achievements recorded by the Renault plant in Tangier, which is the symbol of a very strong and close relationship between Morocco and France, as part of a win-win partnership, and of the confidence placed in the Kingdom by one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world, noting that this factory, one of the most competitive in the world, continues to equip itself, to grow and to gain market share.
For his part, the general manager of the Renault Tangier plant, Mohamed Bachiri, said that this new press will further strengthen the competitiveness of Renault Group Morocco, while preparing its industrial system for the future.
“Our factory is a national project. It is the result of a vision and a strong will of the Kingdom of Morocco to look to the future through the development of its industrial sector, where the automobile occupies an important place ”, he noted. .
He added: “With the launch of the XL High Speed Press, we are continuing to develop our industrial tool towards more technology and more performance”.
Note that the “XL High Speed Press”, capable of stamping up to 21,000 pieces per day, at a speed of 18 strokes per minute, offers up to three times more performance compared to a standard XL Press.
With its exceptional performance and compatibility with steel and aluminum, this new tool will make it possible to manufacture stamping parts, such as body sides or doors, for the Dacia Sandero and Lodgy models, and Renault Express manufactured at the two factories of the group in Morocco, Tangier and Casablanca, as well as for other factories of the Renault group around the world, thus contributing to the integration objectives and the turnover of locally sourced parts.
