Laila Marrakchi’s feature film “Rock the Casbah” will be sold out on September 20 at the Helsinki International Film Festival which lifts the curtain on Thursday on its 34th edition to be held with the participation of Morocco.
Morocco’s participation in this festival will also be marked by the holding, on September 21, of a panel discussion, moderated by the Moroccan director residing in Finland, Mohamed El Aaboudi. This side event will allow you to explore the artistic universe of the Moroccan filmmaker and to discover his documentaries, including two recently awarded in Finland.
This panel discussion will also be an opportunity to promote the cinematographic brand image of Morocco as a destination and privileged location for the shooting of a number of international productions.
In addition to the screening of feature films such as “Rock the Casbah”, the 7th Moroccan art will be honored in the short film category of the festival with the film by Sofia Alaoui “What does it matter if the beasts die” awarded at the César du cinema in France.
The Helsinki International Film Festival (HIFF) is an annual film event organized by the Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy association.
This year’s edition, which will run until Sunday, September 26, will feature a selection of African films from the “African Express” catalog. In addition, African short films will be screened as part of the “Short Station” catalog. These two selections are intended to be a showcase for African cinema in all its diversity and richness.
The Helsinki International Film Festival, also known as the Love & Anarchy Festival (Rakkautta & Anarkiaa in Finnish), is a non-competitive Finnish film festival that has taken place in Helsinki every September since 1988. The name Love & Anarchy , which translates to Amour & Anarchy, comes from the 1973 film of the same name directed by Lina Wertmüller, titled Film of Love and Anarchy in French.
In 2016, the festival attracted around 60,000 people for more than 180 films screened
