Israel has recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara after nearly two and a half years of signing the Abraham Accords, an expected step that confirms the correctness of Morocco’s position and the legitimate defense of the kingdom’s territorial integrity. The momentum continues.
The information was made public through a statement from the royal palace which announced the receipt of a letter from the head of the Israeli government, Benjamin Netanyahu addressed to King Mohammed VI.
In this letter, Netanyahu announced the decision of the State of Israel to “recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the territory of Western Sahara” and that from this moment on, this position of his country will be “reflected in all relevant acts and documents of the Government of Israel”.
Furthermore, the decision will be “transmitted to the United Nations, regional and international organizations of which Israel is a member, as well as to all countries with which Israel maintains diplomatic relations”.
The decision was expected and made sense since the signing of the tripartite agreement between Morocco, Israel and the United States. In 2020, it was only Washington that had clearly expressed this position, for its part, Israel acted on the ground as if it were a given but had not materialized this reality.
The declarations of Israeli officials pro-recognition of the Moroccan Sahara in recent months and the Israeli projects in the Sahara gave a strong indication of this new reality which was looming and the last announcement of the speaker of the Knesset, Amir Ohana, who declared that the government Israel was going to pronounce itself soon on the question presaged that this would be done in the direction of an explicit recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
This umpteenth recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara of a sovereign and strong country and weighing its weight on the international scene, comes to consolidate all the achievements of Morocco in recent years in the defense of its territorial integrity and leaves the club of undecided or rigid restricted.
King Mohammed VI said in his speech of August 20, 2022, “the Sahara issue is the prism through which Morocco considers its international environment, and the yardstick that measures the sincerity of friendships and the effectiveness of the partnerships that the Kingdom establishes”.
This clear quote was accompanied by an invitation to traditional and new partner countries to clarify their positions on the Sahara issue if they have an ambiguous position.
“We expect them to clarify and review the substance of their positioning, in a way that is unmistakable”, declared the Sovereign and this invitation was heard by many countries including Europe including Germany, Spain (formerly the colonial power in the Sahara), the Netherlands, Switzerland…
The Israeli recognition in response to the invitation of King Mohammed VI, is of importance and not the least since Palestine and Israel both recognize the sovereignty of Morocco over its Sahara and this thus eliminates any interpretation on the part of the enemies of the cause. Moroccan national.
On the other hand, it proves the relevance of the Moroccan position and the merits of its approach, which is recognized by the two States, because whatever the country concerned, it considers that Morocco is in its Sahara and the Sahara is in his Morocco, legitimately, legally.
Morocco has therefore succeeded in killing two birds with one stone by remaining in its correct position vis-à-vis the Palestinian question, which has not changed despite the resumption of diplomatic relations with Israel. Rabat has always asserted its constant position in favor of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The Palestinian cause remains elevated to the status of a national cause for Morocco, like that of the Sahara, and this proves that Morocco is straight in its boots with regard to the cause it defends, namely the preservation of its territory from a Algerian colonial plan disguised by a puppet entity called polisario.
With Israel’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, Moroccan diplomacy is taking a new turn with even greater support for international legality and the preservation of Morocco’s security and territorial integrity. .
In Rabat, this is how the subject is perceived, anyone who does not support the Moroccanness of the Sahara does not want to protect the stability and security of the Kingdom from the Algerian partition plans aimed at encircling Morocco and breaking through an outing on the Atlantic.
This, several countries have understood and are now defending not only the stability of Morocco but of all of North Africa and indirectly of the African continent and Europe.
The new Israeli recognition will certainly give a hard time to the countries which are still reluctant to fully recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over its territory and to consider that the autonomy proposal presented by the Kingdom for the definitive settlement of this question is the “one and only solution that will allow the resolution of this artificial conflict created by an isolated rogue state.
The question of the Moroccan Sahara and the defense of the territorial integrity of Morocco has become today a cause adopted and acquired by the United States, by the neighboring Arab and African countries, by more than 15 European countries and Latin American countries. and confirms its correctness and simply the respect that these countries have towards Morocco.
