Rachid El Fayek sentenced to 5 years in prison for raping a minor

The criminal chamber of first instance of the Fez Court of Appeal pronounced this evening, Monday, 5 years in prison against the former parliamentarian Rachid El Fayek, for a charge of “indecent assault on a minor without violence suffering from ‘a mental disability’.

The politician was sentenced for “rape” of a mentally deficient young girl under 18 and must pay civil compensation for the benefit of the victim in the amount of 80,000 dirhams.

The defense of the victim had requested, during a previous hearing, compensation of 500,000 dirhams, after the announcement that the accused had left the national territory during the month of October 2022.

The correctional chamber of the Fez Court of Appeal had decided to refer the parliamentarian El Fayek to the criminal chamber and to prosecute him for heavy charges related to “trafficking in human beings” and “attacking the dignity of a young girl known for her mental weakness and violence” and of “rape leading to defloration”.

As a reminder, this affair became known to the public 3 years ago when the young girl in question appeared in a video accusing the politician of having raped her inside an apartment on his property.

The Court of First Instance had rendered a decision of lack of jurisdiction in the case of the former deputy of the RNI and former president of the commune of Moulay Tayeb. The case was then referred to the Court of Appeal, where the King’s Attorney General decided to prosecute Rashid El Fayek.
