Moroccan-French artist Chaimaa Mellouki is exhibiting, from June 30 to July 30 in Rabat, her “First Symphony” of colors and emotions.
This exhibition, whose opening will take place Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Espace Rivages at the headquarters of the Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans residing abroad, is part of the “MRE young talents series” program which aims to objective of allowing artists at the beginning of their career living abroad to exhibit for the first time, indicates a press release from the Foundation.
Born in Nanterre in 1983, Chaimaa Mellouki, a Moroccan-French visual artist who lives in France, pursued plastic arts courses at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York, at the University of Florence and at the New York University in the United States, said the same source.
“His creation is an exploitation of different styles including figurative, fluid art and surrealism. Through color, she releases the emotions felt at the time of creation. Without restrictions, she travels through unknown lands in search of Beauty,” the statement explains.
In an interview published on the Foundation’s website, the young visual artist recounts her journey. “I grew up in Paris, the world’s cultural capital, from an early age I was fascinated by art. The Louvre has always been my favorite place. I have always drawn, when I was younger at school, I drew during my lessons and often it was beauty that inspired me. I think art doesn’t come to us, it’s part of our being and our essence,” she says.
And to add: “My work fits into several styles ranging from abstract to figurative, from fluid art to surrealism. I explore styles according to my imagination and my creative process. The first canvases I made were of African inspiration. My favorite themes are beauty, the unconscious and the expression of feelings. Beauty has always been a source of fascination and a quest for perfection”.
