Portugal denies changes to Iberian-Moroccan World Cup bid in light of Rubiales scandal

The Portuguese government has ruled out any changes to the Iberian-Moroccan bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup as a result of the Luis Rubiales affair, the suspended president of the Spanish Football Federation.

“Whatever the leaders and possible controversies, this is a unique and common bid that unites the shores of the Mediterranean through sport and its best values,” said the Secretary of State for Youth and Sport, João Paulo Correia, in statements to Portuguese press.

The official stated that the tripartite bid project was initiated by the Federations and then supported by the governments of Portugal, Spain and Morocco “regardless of who holds the positions.”
