Pochettino named Chelsea manager

Chelsea announced on Monday the appointment of Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino as new coach, replacing interim Franck Lampard who arrived as reinforcements after a disastrous season.

The 51-year-old technician, without a club since his ousting from PSG in July 2022, is making his return to the Premier League four years after being sacked from his post by Tottenham.

“Mauricio is a world-class coach with an exceptional track record,” the Blues said in a statement, adding that the coach has signed a two-year contract with an optional additional year.

Chelsea ended the Premier League season in 12th place, far from the usual standards of the 2021 European champion. During the season, they sacked Thomas Tuchel and then Graham Potter.
