The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) announced on Wednesday that detainees will be authorized exceptionally to receive a basket of foodstuffs, from the 2nd day of Eid Al Adha and this during one week according to the timetable established by the prison establishment.
This measure, explains the DGAPR in a press release, comes within the framework of the exclusion of religious holidays from the ban on packed lunches in order to guarantee prisoners their right to celebrate these moments in a spirit imbued with spirituality and to consecrate the strengthening family ties.
Residents will be able to receive their baskets of foodstuffs from their relatives as well as from agents of diplomatic and consular representations for foreign prisoners, only once, during their visits and this according to a schedule established by the directions of the prisons. penitentiary establishments, specifies the Delegation.
And to add that in order to ensure the smooth running of the Eid Al-Adha celebration and to ease the pressure of this operation on the officials, the contents of the basket will be reserved only for consumable cooked meals for two days, without the possibility of family visits and or the bringing of objects such as clothes and blankets.
On this occasion, the DGAPR urges the families of the detainees to make a serious and responsible commitment and to contribute effectively to the success of this operation, without seeking to take advantage of this situation to introduce anything that is likely to undermine the prison security, informing that any breach of this provision will result in the banning of packed lunches for the benefit of the persons concerned as well as the necessary legal proceedings.
Penitentiary establishments will offer all the necessary facilities to their residents to allow them to contact their families and inform them of the conditions and the scheduled date for the introduction of the food basket.
