The president of the temporary exploratory mission on the situation of children and women of Moroccan jihadists stranded in certain areas of tension in the Middle East, Abdellatif Ouahbi presented, this Friday, the main conclusions of his report highlighting the dangerous repatriation of jihadists.
Deputy Abdellatif Ouahbi, also chairman of the temporary exploratory mission on the situation of children, women and Moroccan citizens stranded in hotbeds of tension in the Middle East, said on Friday that their case is complex, both on the security plan than the political one, because it intertwines the political with the educational, the psychological, the social and the economic.
The president of the exploratory mission considered, during a press conference that he organized in the company of the rapporteur of the mission Slimane El Omarani, that the children, who lived in the midst of bloodshed, pay the most price and constitute the weak link in this file.
Women prefer prison than stay there
While stressing that the resolution of this file is not an easy thing, because it remains closely linked to the security of the State and the security of the citizens, he affirmed that the State is concerned about the matter and in discusses at the level of its institutions.
According to him, King Mohammed VI is personally interested in the issue because it concerns children and women, and that he is responsible for the safety of citizens, because the issue is complex and complex.
Regarding the situation of the combatants’ wives, he stressed that they live in miserable conditions on the battle fronts and that they prefer to return to Moroccan prisons rather than stay there.
According to the WFP SG, many of them died as a result of torture in “houses for widows and single women” set up by the jihadists.
The dangerous repatriation of jihadists
For his part, rapporteur Slimane El Omrani explained that “it is difficult to repatriate these people without taking into account the security dimensions of the issue”.
While highlighting the different approaches adopted by other countries on this sensitive security issue, he called for thinking about a general amnesty similar to the process of reconciliation from which the Salafists-jihadists in Morocco have benefited.
El Omrani stressed that among the recommendations of the mission, there is one calling on the Moroccan state to activate the judicial cooperation agreement with the Syrian government to bring back those who have been tried in this country, noting that this agreement has been signed in May 2011.
Recall that the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, revealed on Tuesday before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the First Chamber, the bitter reality of the children and women of Moroccan jihadists stranded in certain areas of tension in the Middle East.
Drawing a grim picture of the situation after the defeat of Daesh, he revealed that the families of Moroccan “jihadists” have been transferred to three camps, namely the “Al Haoul” camp, the “Al Raouj” camp and the ” Ain Issa ”, all located on the Syrian-Iraqi border under Kurdish control.
According to him, 1,659 Moroccan jihadists left Morocco to join various terrorist movements in the Syrian-Iraqi region and 290 women and 628 minors also went to the said regions.
Laftit, on the other hand, revealed the return to Morocco of 345 combatants who were tried in accordance with the provisions of the Penal Code which punish membership in terrorist groups.
