Zlatan Ibrahimovic has had surgery on his left knee and will be out for “seven to eight months”, his club AC Milan announced on Wednesday, while the 40-year-old Swedish striker has not yet announced whether he will stop or not soccer.
“Arthroscopy had been planned for some time to definitively resolve the instability of the joint thanks to the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament, with lateral reinforcement and repair of the meniscus”, said the club crowned Italian champions on Sunday in a press release.
The intervention, carried out on Wednesday at the Jean-Mermoz hospital in Lyon, “was perfectly successful”, specified the Lombard club, referring to a “prognosis estimated at seven to eight months”.
If “Ibra”, who returned to AC Milan in January 2020, decided to continue his career, this would mean that he would not return to the pitch until early 2023.
The Swede had already had surgery on his left knee in June 2021, which caused him to miss the Euros with Sweden and disrupted his start to the season. He has also suffered from Achilles tendons this season, missing many matches.
Ibrahimovic cast doubt on his future on Sunday evening, stressing that his choice “depended” on the answers he expected from a physical point of view.
“I suffered a lot for this trophy, it’s the one that gives me the most satisfaction”he had underlined after the conquest of the scudetto.
Asked if he had played his last match, he replied that “it depends(ait)”: “First I have to do things to be well, it depends on what will happen in the next few days”he had said.
