ONEE: € 18 million from the AfDB for the sustainability and security of the drinking water supply

The National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) signed an additional financing agreement of 18 million euros (M €) for the sustainability and security of drinking water supply in several regions of Morocco.

Signed by Abderrahim El Hafidi, Director General of ONEE and Achraf Tarsim, Resident Representative of the ADB in Morocco, this additional financial assistance will contribute, with the loan already mobilized in 2018 (for a total amount of approximately € 115 million) , to the financing of a program aiming at the sustainability and the security of the drinking water supply of the cities of Al Hoceima, Tangier, Guercif, Béni Mellal and Zagora through several components, indicates a press release from the Office.

This concerns the supply of raw water from the future “Ghriss” dam to the Al Hoceima treatment station, the supply of raw water from the “Ibn Battouta” dam to the Mharhar / Tangier treatment station. , as well as the strengthening of water production in the Guercif region from the future “Targa Ou Madi” dam, the treatment capacity for the Beni Mellal region and water production in the Zagora region. from the future “Agdez” dam.

These projects are part of the National Program for the Supply of Drinking Water and Irrigation 2020-2027 (PNAEPI) whose agreement was signed before the King on January 13, 2020.

The collaboration between ONEE and the ADB in the drinking water and liquid sanitation sectors dates back to 1978 with a total financial contribution from the ADB of around 9 billion dirhams.
