ONDA expects a recovery rate of 75% in 2022

The National Airports Office (ONDA) expects a recovery rate of 75% for 2022, compared to 2019, said the Ministry of Transport and Logistics.

At the beginning of 2022, the office recorded an improvement in air traffic at all of the Kingdom’s airports, the ministry underlined on Sunday in a press release made public after the meeting of the Board of Directors of the ‘ONDA, chaired, on May 13 in Rabat, by the Minister of Transport and Logistics Mohammed Abdeljalil, with on the agenda the closing of the accounts for the year 2021, the examination of the indicators of activity at the end of April 2022 and various other subjects.

The ministry specifies that 3.2 million passengers were welcomed during the period from February 7 to April 30, 2022, which represents 64% of the air traffic recorded during the same period of 2019.

Similarly, ONDA’s balance sheet, closed on December 31, 2021, recorded traffic of 9.94 million passengers, an increase of 39% compared to 2020 and a decrease of 60% compared to 2019.

Air freight also recorded a recovery, reaching 70,000 tonnes, an increase of 14% compared to 2020 and a decrease of 27% compared to 2019, the same source said, adding that aircraft traffic recorded, as to him, an evolution of around 42% compared to 2020 and a drop of 51% compared to 2019.

And to note that the Office’s 2021 financial statement reflects the impact of the health crisis on its activity, whose turnover reached 2.1 billion dirhams, recording an increase of 34% compared to 2020 and a decrease 50% compared to 2019.

Operating expenses recorded 1.8 billion dirhams, an increase of 0.5% compared to 2020, and a decrease of 7% compared to 2019.

As for the net result, the Office recorded a deficit of one billion dirhams, it is pointed out.

The year 2021 was marked by the opening of the new terminal at Nador El Aroui airport, which increased its capacity to 2 million passengers per year. It also saw the commissioning of the new terminal at Mohammed V airport, dedicated to domestic flights, the continuation of work at Rabat-Salé airport, as well as other projects, the statement continued.

The office also continued to carry out, during 2021, projects that are part of its new strategic plan “Envol 2025”.

At the end of its work, the Board of Directors approved ONDA’s accounts for the year 2021, the press release concludes.
