A 35-year-old man has been released from an Italian prison due to health concerns, having reached nearly 200 kg in weight. The prison is unable to afford him a low-calorie diet.
Dimitri Fricano received a 30-year sentence for the murder of his 25-year-old girlfriend, Erika Preti, during a vacation in June 2017. Fricano stabbed Preti 57 times after she reprimanded him for leaving ‘too many crumbs’ on the hotel bed.
Despite being arrested in 2017, most of his time outside prison was due to trial delays caused by the pandemic. Finally convicted in 2022, he was sentenced to 30 years behind bars.
According to local media reports, judges have decided he will serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest at his parents’ home in Biella, Italy, rather than in the Turin prison where he was initially sentenced.
