Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal ben Farhan did not rule out normalization of his country with Israel, judging that it would be “extremely beneficial” for the Middle East region.
While a few months ago, the probability of seeing Riyadh normalize with Israel was almost zero, after several normalization agreements ratified with several Arab countries under the Abrahamic Accords, Saudi Arabia’s position tends to get closer to a similar news.
And for good reason, faced with the growing threat of destabilization from Iran, a common enemy for Israel and Saudi Arabia but also for several countries in the Middle East region, the Wahhabi monarchy has seen its positions move closer to more and more than those of the Hebrew state, supported by the United States.
“I think the normalization of Israel’s status within the region would have a tremendous impact there,” Prince bin Farhan said in an interview with American television station CNN on Thursday, adding that it “would be extremely beneficial. both economically, socially and from a security point of view ”.
The prince, however, weighed in the balance of a potential agreement, progress made on the Palestinian question, saying that any agreement with Saudi Arabia “depends very much on the progress of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process”. And this question is not on the agenda in Israel which continues its geographic expansion and in Palestine which no longer sees the end of the tunnel.
And if Saudi Arabia does not say it officially, for its part Israel considers it very likely that Riyadh will do like the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan which normalized their relations with the Hebrew state a few months ago. .
