Morocco’s chances of being named host country of the African Cup of Nations football (CAN 2025) are “great and real”, underline specialized Togolese journalists.
According to Franck Nunyama, editor-in-chief of the thematic radio “Sport FM” in Lomé, Morocco has a good chance of winning the organization of CAN 2025 ahead of the candidacies of Algeria, South Africa, Zambia and the joint Nigeria-Benin bid.
“Morocco’s chances of hosting CAN 2025 are great and real because today throughout Africa, Morocco remains a reference in terms of sports infrastructure, especially in football,” he said. in a statement to MAP in Lomé.
The Togolese sports journalist points out that Morocco, which has already hosted very large competitions, is the favorite among the candidates selected to host CAN 2025, recalling that “Morocco is also a candidate for the 2030 World Cup”.
According to him, there is no doubt that the Kingdom will be designated by the governing body of African football to host the 35th edition of this great continental celebration. “Today, there is no doubt about it, Morocco remains the big favorite to host this CAN 2025,” he said.
“Today, Morocco remains in my opinion the greatest football country in Africa compared to what this country was able to achieve during the last Football World Cup in Qatar by playing for the first time as a national team. African semi-final of the competition, eliminated by France,” he said.
“It is a great football country where training is well organized with a reference training center that bears the name of HM King Mohammed VI with significant investment. I think Moroccan football has been taking off for quite some time now in Africa,” he notes.
“When we look at the clubs, for example, last year it was the Wydad Athletic club of Casablanca which won the Champions League, the Renaissance Sportive de Berkane which also won the CAF Cup. Beyond these clubs, there is the Fus de Rabat, the AsFAR, clubs which are really professional and which have quality training centers with structures which make it possible to be able to develop football”, notes- he.
Today, Moroccan football is clearly developing, clearly progressing. Proof of this is the excellent performance at the last World Cup with a coach who knows the mentality of Moroccan football well, Walid Regragui, who has already won the Champions League with Wydad and who has the ambition to train in the Premier League one day. English League. Moroccan football is quite simply the pride of the African continent, of the Arab world. For me, Moroccan football is number one in Africa,” he continues.
For his part, the journalist of Edito.tg, Edem Attipo, believes that the battle of this organization of the CAN 2025, will be played between Morocco and Algeria, “but the Kingdom has a lot of chances to win “.
“It will be played between Algeria and Morocco. But Algeria loses points by refusing Moroccan teams to come to its territory by direct flight. As a result, Morocco did not participate in CHAN. This dispute of which Morocco has been +active victim+ can benefit it as a reward by being designated as the organizer of CAN 2025. Ultimately, Morocco has a good global reputation after its brilliant performance at the 2022 World Cup by qualifying in semi final. Organizing a CAN in Morocco will be a good cast and an example of sporting merit in the eyes of the world, which was discovering this country even more in its fullness,” he explains.
CAF could designate the host country of CAN 2025 next July on the occasion of its next General Assembly to be held in Benin.
The one and only CAN organized by Morocco dates back to 1988 when the Atlas Lions were eliminated in the semi-finals by the Cameroon of Roger Milla, future winner of the competition. Assigning the organization of the 35th edition of the prestigious continental tournament to Morocco would only be fair after the withdrawal of the organization of CAN 2015 in the Kingdom in favor of Equatorial Guinea. At the time, Morocco had suggested to CAF to postpone this organization because of the Ebola pandemic.
