Morocco, represented by its Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ahmed Tazi, is taking part in the work of the 157th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of Foreign Ministers, which opened this Wednesday at Cairo.
The Council was preceded by three ministerial meetings of the Special Commissions, stemming from the Council, devoted to monitoring the developments of the various crises at the level of the region, and at which the Kingdom was represented, in addition to Ahmed Tazi, by the Head of the Organizations Division Arab and Islamic within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelali Jahed.
These are the quadripartite ministerial commission responsible for monitoring the crisis with Iran and the means of repelling its interference in the internal affairs of the Arab States, the ministerial commission on Turkish interference in the internal affairs of the Arab countries and of the ministerial commission responsible for carrying out actions to curb Israeli measures in occupied Al-Quds, chaired by Jordan and composed of Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Qatar, Egypt, Algeria and Tunisia.
The opening session of the session of Arab Foreign Ministers was marked by the presence of the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, who gave a presentation on the current situation of the UN agency and the deficit it suffers from, calling on Arab countries and donors to provide more support in order to enable UNRWA to continue to provide its services to the Palestinians.
During this session, the Arab Foreign Ministers will examine 11 points relating to the various issues of joint Arab action at the political, economic, social, security, financial and administrative levels, led by the report of the Secretary-General between the last two sessions and the preparation of the next Arab summit.
The Arab Ministers will also review the political developments of the Palestinian issue, the Arab-Israeli conflict, the implementation of the Arab Peace Initiative, Israeli violations in the Holy City, support for the Palestine Budget and the resistance of the Palestinian people, as well as Arab water security and Israel’s theft of water from the occupied Palestinian territories.
In the area of security, the meeting examines developments in Lebanon, Syria, Libya and Yemen, as well as the Iranian occupation of the Emirati islands and the security of navigation and energy supplies in the Gulf region.
It is also a question of adopting a united Arab position concerning the violation by Turkish forces of Iraqi sovereignty and Turkish interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries.
The agenda also includes consideration of ways to strengthen Arab ties with regional and international groupings, including Arab-African, Arab-European relations, relations with Russia, Japan, India, China , Central Asia, the Pacific Islands and South America, as well as cooperation between the Arab League and the United Nations.
In the social and human rights field, the session will examine support for the displaced within Arab countries, in particular displaced Iraqis, the report and recommendations of the Permanent Arab Commission for Human Rights, in addition to issues relating to the preservation of Arab national security and the fight against terrorism.
