Morocco reiterates its “clear support” for legality in Yemen and sovereignty of Lebanon

On the sidelines of the 9th forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, which is being held in Fez, the Head of Moroccan diplomacy, Nasser Bourita, had several talks with his counterparts from friendly countries, including Lebanon and Yemen.

On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated the Kingdom’s “clear position” regarding the legality in Yemen, but also the stability and sovereignty of Lebanon.

In a statement to the press following his talks with Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak, Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Bourita underlined the Kingdom’s support for the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of Yemen, as well as that the condemnation of all attempts by the terrorist group of “houthis” and those who support it aimed at undermining the stability of Yemen and the tranquility of its citizens.

The resolution of the Yemeni crisis must be based on dialogue and international and Arab references, objects of consensus, with respect for legality in Yemen, represented by the Presidential Council and the government, he said.

Morocco will always stand alongside Yemen, in accordance with the High Instructions of HM King Mohammed VI, he assured, highlighting the depth of bilateral relations and their rooted human character, as well as their solid foundations, based on sincere fraternity and active and continuous solidarity.

For his part, the Yemeni minister reiterated his country’s constant position supporting the territorial integrity of Morocco.

Yemen reiterates its constant and solid position of principle towards matters of interest to Morocco, and at their head the question of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.“, he said, reaffirming his country’s determination to coordinate with Morocco in all issues with an Arab or international dimension.

The Foreign Minister also met with his Lebanese counterpart, Abdallah Bou Habib, highlighting, on this occasion, the Lebanese government’s efforts to stay away from all political and military conflicts in the region.

In a joint statement at the end of these talks, Bourita also congratulated the Lebanese minister for the success of the last legislative elections in his country, expressing the Kingdom’s aspiration for a consensus of all the Lebanese components, in as soon as possible, to complete the constitutional process through the election of a President of the Republic and thus move forward with the reforms undertaken by the government to establish an economic and social system beneficial to the brotherly Lebanese people.

Morocco aspires to revitalize bilateral relations and to hold the 2nd session of the High Joint Commission as soon as possible and to modernize the legal framework in order to respond to accelerated global changes, he said.

He also underlined that Morocco welcomes with satisfaction the agreement delimiting the southern maritime border with American mediation and under the auspices of the UN, and hopes that this agreement will contribute to enabling Lebanon to benefit from its resources in order to promote its economy and achieve stability and prosperity.

The Lebanese minister, for his part, reiterated his country’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He also reaffirmed his country’s rejection of all separatist entities threatening the unity and security of States.

Abdallah Bou Habib also welcomed the fraternal relations uniting the two countries and Morocco’s continued support for the main Lebanese issues, stressing that the Kingdom, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, always stands alongside Lebanon and supports its just causes.
