Morocco receives 2,800 head of cattle imported from Brazil

Morocco received on Sunday a shipment of 2,800 head of cattle imported from Brazil for slaughter. The cattle arrived at the port of Jorf Lasfar in the province of El Jadida.

A shipment of 2,800 head of cattle imported from Brazil arrived in Morocco as part of supplying the national market with red meat and supporting the stability of its wholesale and installment prices.

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiqi announced that 15,000 head of cattle announced have been exceeded. New shipments are to be expected, they are expected to be delayed due to the four week processing time.

The import of sheep should take place next week, between 17 and 18 thousand heads, in order to cover the needs of the national market.

This import comes after government decisions aimed at limiting the rise in the price of red meat, within the Moroccan market.

The Minister of Agriculture had explained that the limited number of cows that have been imported so far was due to their high world prices, stressing that the import process continues alongside the government’s desire to preserve the national livestock and to restructure it in order to begin the slaughter of imported sheep and cattle.
