The Moroccan national team won against its counterpart from Saudi Arabia with a score of 6 to 4, Wednesday at the “PGH La Palmeraie Polo Club” in Assilah, to qualify for the final of the 4th edition of the International Mohammed VI Polo Trophy, placed under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI.
The Moroccan team taking part in this prestigious competition, organized by the Royal Moroccan Polo Federation until May 27 in Rabat and Assilah, is made up of Sidi Mohamed Elmhamdi, Ahmed Kadiri, Abdessalam Elhanafi and Segundo Fernandez Lorente.
Led 1-0 from the start of the match, the national team managed to pick up the score before half-time, then to dominate the match until the final whistle.
The captain of the national polo team, Sidi Mohamed Elmhamdi, underlined that the match was very difficult, since the Saudi team has very experienced and high-level players in its ranks, adding: “thanks to a good tactics and perseverance, we won this match and brought joy to the fans of the national team”.
“We qualified for the final, winning against the Saudi team which includes high quality players with great experience, thanks to the good tactical discipline shown by all the players”, s For his part, Ahmed Kadiri, player of the national polo team, is congratulated.
“We managed to get back into the game after conceding the first goal, and then take the lead in this match, which took place in a good atmosphere,” he added.
He noted that this competition is an opportunity to promote polo, expressing the deep gratitude of the practitioners of this sport for the High Royal Patronage granted to this event and for the efforts made by the Royal Moroccan Polo Federation in favor of the encouraging the practice of this sporting discipline.
The teams taking part in this large-scale event, initiated by the international polo federation, form two groups, the first comprising Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Argentina and the United Arab Emirates. The second is made up of Egypt, Spain, the United States and Nigeria.
This prestigious trophy will contribute to the development and influence of this equestrian sport discipline in Morocco, both on the professional level and on the amateur practice, to ultimately make Morocco one of the leaders of this sport in Africa and in the world.
This approach aims to strengthen the country’s image and place on the African and international scene through an inclusive and benchmark organization, aimed at positioning the Kingdom of Morocco as a polo destination, developing tourism and create future opportunities for players and fans of the sport.
