Meeting this Friday at the Mohamed VI Complex in Rabat, Morocco, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) drew lots for the 14th edition of the Women’s African Cup of Nations. Morocco inherited Group A and will face Burkina Faso, Senegal and Uganda in the group stage.
The competition will take place in Morocco from July 2 to 23, 2022. Exceptionally, this women’s continental competition will be played in July 2022, instead of November-December, as was customary, CAF announced last September.
Defending champions Nigeria are among the top seeds, as are hosts Morocco and second-ranked Cameroon.
Note that the Atlas Lionesses took part in only two editions of the CAN, in 1998 and 2000. The 2020 edition, it is recalled, had been canceled due to the health crisis linked to the coronavirus .
