Morocco Foodex and the German Federal Office for Agriculture and Food “BLE” signed, Wednesday in Meknes, a three-year action plan 2023-2025 in the field of technical control of fruits and vegetables.
Initialed by Ghita El Ghorfi, general manager of Morocco Foodex and Beate Scheer, representative of the president of the BLE, this action plan aims to consolidate the existing cooperation and to break down the objectives of the agreement into an action program taking into account of the existing situation and future expectations in the areas, in particular, of developing skills in terms of technical control and consolidating the exchange of information and data.
Among these areas also, the reinforcement of the confidence of the German control authorities in the level of the technical control exercised by Morocco Foodex, the coordination in terms of the contribution of the two parties in the discussions and the positions taken in the international standardization forums and the interpretation of standards and guidelines for technical controls of the quality of agricultural products intended for the international market.
It also involves exchanges of views on ways to modernize the quality control of fruit and vegetables and the launch of gateways for the digitalization of control formalities between the two parties through a project for the interchange of computerized data (EDI) .
In order to materialize this three-year action plan, a monitoring committee made up of representatives of the two organizations will be set up and will be responsible for monitoring and implementing the actions provided for in the agreement.
“This agreement aims to consolidate the partnership and exchanges between the two establishments. The purpose of this action plan is to control, train and digitize the continuous control of fruits and vegetables, with a view to acquiring new market shares”, declared El Mehdi El Alami, Director of Promotion and development of Morocco Foodex.
For her part, Ms. Scheer indicated that this agreement is a new step in the consolidation of the exchange of information between the two parties.
BLE is the main service provider under the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Its main mission is to implement measures to strengthen sustainable agricultural, food, forestry and fisheries industries and rural development, as well as the provision of administrative and information services for the German Federal Ministry of Food and of Agriculture and other departments.
Germany is positioned as the 4th importer in the European Union and 10th importer internationally of Moroccan agricultural and maritime food products.
The value of Moroccan agro-food exports to Germany reached 3.017 billion dirhams in 2022, i.e. a growth of 62% compared to the year 2021 and a growth of 156% compared to 2010.
In 2022, the agro-food sector represented a share in value of 22% and a share in volume of 46% compared to Morocco’s total exports to this market.
This agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 15th edition of the International Agricultural Show in Morocco (SIAM), which is being held from May 2 to 7 in Meknes under the theme “Green Generation: For sustainable food sovereignty”.
