The government spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas, affirmed that Morocco is determined to redouble their efforts and relaunch the royal waterworks project.
During the weekly press briefing at the end of the government council, Baitas recalled that the Executive has increased the budget envelope more than once, the aim being to give answers to a period drought for two successive years.
Regarding the water cuts in the Oriental region, he conceded that “actually last week there was an incident in the water pipe. The damage, whether repaired or not, inevitably has a negative impact on the water supply, and this causes cuts”.
“The water reserve will be replenished to allow better functioning of the distribution”, wanted to reassure the minister.
While emphasizing that in the water sector, every week there were one or two projects that saw the light of day, he notably recalled the Sebou-Bouregreg water highway, the works of which are very advanced and which should be operational as soon as this summer.
He also mentioned the signing, last week, of agreements between OCP and the government concerning the Safi and El Jadida wastewater treatment plants.
The aim through these projects, he said, is to meet demand by increasing the supply of water for citizens.
