Elbit Systems recently said it was awarded a $150 million contract to supply PULS (Precise and Universal Launch Systems) rocket launchers and a set of precision-guided long-range rockets to an international customer. Although this customer is not revealed, experts suggest that it would be Morocco.
According to a statement from the Israeli defense systems company, the $150 million contract for the supply of the PULS (Precise and Universal Launching Systems) rocket launchers and a set of long-range rockets will be executed over a period of three years.
” NOTWe are seeing growing demand for our advanced artillery solutions from armies looking to increase the effectiveness of their armed forces. Contract demonstrates further confidence in Elbit Systems’ PULS rocket artillery solutions“, said, General Manager of the Land Division of Elbit Systems, Yehuda Vered.
Indeed, the PULS system developed by the Israeli company offers a complete and cost-effective solution, capable of launching unguided rockets, precision-guided munitions and missiles with an effective range of up to 300 km. With its unique design, the PULS can also support future growth capabilities, such as the ability to launch surveillance munitions, including the canister launch configuration of Elbit Systems’ SkyStriker Surveillance Munition.
The PULS launcher is fully adaptable to existing wheeled and tracked platforms, which significantly reduces maintenance and training costs, says Elbit Systems.
It should be recalled that the specialized forum Far-Morocco had indicated at the beginning of the year that the Royal Armed Forces had placed an order for PULS rocket launchers with a view to further developing their artillery.
For Mohammed Issam Laaroussi, Director General of the Manzourat Center for Geopolitical and Strategic Studies, “ the announcement of the Israeli company, following the confirmation of several reports indicating that Rabat is the candidate to benefit from this missile system, confirms that the Israeli recognition of the Moroccanity of the Sahara is only an introduction to a comprehensive military and security cooperation between the two countries, which will certainly contribute to strengthening the defense capabilities of the Moroccan army“.
Thanks to the notable advances made by Tel Aviv in the field of military industry, the acquisition by Morocco of long-range Israeli rocket launchers, recognized for their precision and their reduced maintenance cost, should play a key role in establishing a strategic balance favorable to the Kingdom of Morocco in the region, explains the expert.
He stresses that this acquisition will strengthen Morocco’s defense capacity and enable it to deal with attacks and hostile threats emanating from Algeria as well as terrorist groups present in the region.
” Morocco is aware of the dangerousness of the situation in its regional environment, and it understands the importance of acquiring such qualitative weapons that provide deterrence and reduce the likelihood of direct confrontation with enemies.“, adds Laaroussi, saying that “ the possession by the Moroccan army of these Israeli missiles, which even some advanced nations have not obtained, confirms that Rabat is a reliable partner for Israel, and that this partnership will experience important developments in the future, whether on the military technical level or on the intelligence level“.
