Moroccan international Hamza Mendyl has signed a three-year contract with Belgian club Oud-Heverlee Leuven, the first division club announced on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old left-back arrives from German club Schalke04.
“Hamza Mendyl is a great talent and has experience in major competitions and at the international level. He’s quick and valuable in building,” team coach Marc Brys told the Universitaires’ official website.
Mendyl left Lille for Schalke04 in 2018, where he only played 21 matches. He was notably loaned to Dijon, France (2019-2020), then to Gaziantep in Turkey (2021-2022). Last season, he played 21 games for the Turkish D1 club.
The player also has 20 national team appearances, but hasn’t been called up since November 2020.
