Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou joins Al-Hilal, signs deal until 2026

Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, 32, has officially joined the ranks of Al-Hilal. The Saudi club secured Bounou’s services with a contract extension through 2026, marking his transition from his former club Sevilla.

Although names like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were in the mix, Bounou has ultimately become part of the Saudi powerhouse Al-Hilal. Following in the footsteps of Neymar, the Moroccan goalkeeper bid adieu to Sevilla and aligned himself with one of Saudi Arabia’s premier football clubs.

Having spent five seasons guarding the net for FC Sevilla, Bounou’s legacy is etched in the club’s history. During his tenure with the Andalusian team, he clinched two UEFA Europa League titles (in 2020 and 2023). However, his last appearance for Sevilla was in the Super Cup, which ended in defeat against Manchester City in a penalty shootout (1-1, 4-5 on penalties).

Across 142 matches with Sevilla, Bounou conceded 141 goals while maintaining a clean sheet on 58 occasions. Impressively, he even found the net once during the 2020-2021 league season, scoring a crucial equalizer against Valladolid in injury time. With 55 international caps for Morocco, Bounou was instrumental in propelling the team to the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Upon joining Al-Hilal, Bounou becomes a part of an already formidable roster. The Saudi club, in addition to securing Neymar’s talents, has made significant acquisitions this summer, including the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and Ruben Neves from the global football stage.
