Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, met the UN’s Personal Envoy for the Moroccan Sahara, Staffan De Mistura, in Rabat on September 8.
This meeting is part of an effort to restart political talks involving Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, and the Polisario, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2654 from October 27, 2022, according to a statement from Morocco’s ministry of foreign affairs.
During the talks, Morocco reaffirmed its position for a political solution based on the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative and its commitment to national sovereignty.
Earlier, De Mistura visited Laayoune and Dakhla, meeting officials, community leaders, and assessing economic and social progress in the region.
He also inspected socio-economic projects under the New Development Model for the Southern Provinces initiated by King Mohammed VI in 2015.
