Two hundred and fifty Moroccan figures have strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in the city of Smara, the spiritual capital of the southern provinces. The attack has been attributed to the Polisario Front’s militias.
In a document seen by MoroccoLatestNews, national, youth, and women’s groups in Morocco demanded that the perpetrators of this terrorist attack be brought to justice. They also call for international cooperation through Interpol to track down the suspects.
The signatories of the document unequivocally label the militias of the separatist Polisario organization as terrorists. They urge international actors to join in the fight against terrorism, given the admissions from some of its members regarding their involvement in the attack on innocent civilians.
Additionally, they call on the United Nations to fulfill its peacekeeping role and implement Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2703, which recognizes autonomy as the sole path to resolving the conflict .
The document also advocates for a general mobilization to address potential terrorist threats originating from Algerian territory, following the attack on Smara, which resulted in the death of a civilian and injuries to others.
