More than 66 million dirhams (MDH) have been mobilized to finance development projects for oasis and argan areas in the province of Guelmim during the period from 2013 to 2021, according to data provided by the National Agency. for the development of oasis areas and the argan tree (ANDZOA).
Out of these 66 MDH, ANDZOA’s contribution reached 43.45 MDH, while the rest of the amount was provided by other partners such as the National Initiative for Human Development, elected councils, external services and the civil society.
These figures were made public by the delegate of ANDZOA in Guelmim, Ahmed Farak, during a meeting organized at the Higher School of Technology (EST) as part of an awareness program launched by the Agency for celebrate the first edition of International Argan Day.
Mr. Farak specified that the funded projects that benefited 20 municipalities in the province focused on agriculture (1.05 million dirhams), the environment (26 million dirhams), drinking water (9.17 million dirhams), rural roads (8.72 million dirhams), in addition to electricity (6.39 million dirhams).
It is also, he added, education (10.32 million dirhams), tourism (4 million dirhams), the socio-cultural field (800,000 dirhams) and health (250,000 dirhams).
According to the same data, the argan tree in the province of Guelmim covers an area of 27,000 hectares, or 3% of the total area at the national level (830,000 ha), which represents 7% of the national forest domain.
