More than 430,000 companies operating in the non-agricultural and non-financial sectors in 2019

The number of companies operating in the non-agricultural and non-financial market sectors in Morocco stood at 431,811 entities in 2019, according to the Moroccan Observatory of Very Small, Small and Medium Enterprises (OMTPME).

All of these companies employ 3,147,450 employees and achieve an overall cumulative turnover (CA) of 1,742.2 billion dirhams (MMDH), including 304.3 billion dirhams for export, thus generating 377, 5 billion dirhams of added value, specifies the OMTPME which has just published a sectoral notebook of companies operating in the non-agricultural and non-financial market sectors for the 2019 and 2020 financial years.

The distribution of companies by sector reveals that they are mainly concentrated in “Trade, repair of automobiles and motorcycles”, “Construction” and in “Transport & Storage”, with respective shares of 34.5%, 15.6% and 10.1%, adds the same source. With regard to the distribution of turnover, the predominant sectors are “Trade, repair of automobiles and motorcycles” with 644.1 billion dirhams (37% of total turnover), followed by “Manufacturing industry” with 362.2 billion dirhams (20.8%) and “Construction” with 226.2 billion dirhams (13%).

The sectoral breakdown of employees reveals that the “Manufacturing industry” generates 625,148 jobs, or nearly 20% of the jobs in the sectors considered. It is followed by “Trade, repair of automobiles and motorcycles” and by “Construction”, with 17.9% and 17.1% respectively.

The regional distribution of employees in the non-agricultural and non-financial market sectors shows that the Casablanca-Settat region concentrates 46.3% of employees, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra with 15% and Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima with 12.7 %.

In addition, the distribution of employees by workforce class shows that companies employing more than 500 employees account for 41.2% of total employment in the non-agricultural and non-financial market sectors, followed by companies whose workforce is comprised of between 101 and 500 employees with nearly 21.1% and those employing between 0 and 10 employees with 16.1%, specifies the OMTPME.

With regard to the evolution of the number of declared jobs, all sectors of activity were able to return to a level almost similar to that of the previous year, with the exception of the “Accommodation and catering” sectors. “, “Extractive industries”, “Information and communication”, “Manufacturing industry” and “Specialised, scientific and technical activities”, which ended the year with respective declines of 6.6% , 6.1%, 4.3%, 3.3% and 2.9%.
