The Moroccan national team won against its Argentinian counterpart with a score of 9 to 3, Monday at the Royal Guard polo club in Rabat, in the opening match of the 4th edition of the International Mohammed Trophy. VI of Polo, placed under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI.
The Moroccan team taking part in this prestigious competition, organized by the Royal Moroccan Polo Federation until May 27 in Rabat and Assilah, is made up of Sidi Mohamed Elmhamdi, Ahmed Kadiri, Abdessalam Elhanafi and Segundo Fernandez Lorente. The teams taking part in this large-scale event, initiated by the International Polo Federation, form two groups, the first comprising Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Argentina and the United Arab Emirates. The second is made up of Egypt, Spain, the United States and Nigeria.
The eight teams will face each other in knockout matches (quarter-finals) between May 22 and May 23. The four winners will qualify for the semi-finals (May 24 and 25), which will determine the players for the May 27 final. The losers of the quarter-finals will face off to determine 7th and 8th place, while the losers of the semi-finals will cross paths to complete the podium and the rest of the standings, also on May 27.
This prestigious trophy, which is also held at the “PGH La Palmeraie Polo Club” in Assilah, will contribute to the development and influence of this equestrian sporting discipline in Morocco, both on the professional level and on the amateur practice, to ultimately make Morocco one of the leaders of this sport in Africa and in the world.
This approach aims to strengthen the country’s image and place on the African and international scene through an inclusive and benchmark organization, aimed at positioning the Kingdom of Morocco as a polo destination, developing tourism and create future opportunities for players and fans of the sport.
