Oxfam in Morocco organized a national meeting as part of the development of the national influence strategy for migrants. At the end of the meeting program a final document is to be announced in June.
The national meeting for the development of the national strategy of influence (SNI) is held over two days, it covers all subjects relating to migrants in Morocco, especially since the kingdom has become a land of welcome for thousands of people. migrants who no longer go to Europe.
“Morocco has become a land of asylum and lasting settlement for migrants”, indicates an Oxfam document which indicates that the country thus welcomes regular labor immigration, a relatively large number of foreign students, migrants in an irregular situation, often “in transit” for many years, and finally, asylum seekers and refugees.
This migration that Morocco welcomes is complex and has many facets, and it is apprehended and managed by Morocco according to different prisms, in particular through a national immigration and asylum strategy which is intended to be humanist based on respect for basic rights. migrants but also a security policy aimed at protecting its borders and resulting from movements in and out of the country.
The “Protection – Resilience – Migrations” project, at the heart of a collaboration between the European Union and Oxfam, aims to strengthen the protection and resilience of migrants and host populations in Morocco.
Its ambition is to support changes in practices, to support public policies at national and regional level and to improve access to certain services for migrants and vulnerable people.
And to do this, Oxfam and several actors involved in this project, in particular actors working on the protection of migrants, are in the process of developing a National Influencing Strategy (NIS) which will be broken down into several concrete actions of influence to be carried out by several actors towards decision-makers at the national and regional levels.
The SNI, which promotes collective reflection, has the ultimate objective of improving access for migrants, especially the most vulnerable, to basic services in the sectors of health, education, justice and housing. through actions of influence carried out in consultation by several actors at the local and national level, indicates Oxfam.
The writing of the final document of the SNI, the drafting of a policy paper and a position paper are planned for June. The topics covered revolve around health, education, housing and justice, by analyzing the needs of the target populations.
