The Party for Progress and Socialism (PPS) continues its meetings and steps to strengthen the efforts of the opposition against the government of Aziz Akhannouch. Recently, the PPS political bureau sent a message to the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), which responded by sending members of its own political bureau who met Karim Taj, a member of the PPS political bureau, and d other party leaders. However, and unlike other meetings that take place either with the unions of the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT) and the Moroccan Labor Union (UMT), or with the Popular Movement Party (MP), no joint statement has been issued to this effect.
According to a well-informed source, the meeting between the two parties angered the comrades of Nabil Benabdallah, secretary general of the PPS, because of the way the USFP leaders interacted with the correspondence of the PPS. Indeed, Ahmed Abita led the delegation of Ittihadis, which included members of the party’s economic committee, set up to monitor the issue of high prices and the country’s difficult economic and social conditions.
The same source suggested that the USFP’s handling of the PPS represented a ” denigration manifesto of the party and its initiative, which angered its secretary general, Nabil Benabdellah, and several other party leaders, especially since the names who attended the meeting were not the main leaders of the party of the rose.
It seems that the relationship between the two parties is not at its best, and that there are clear differences between the leaders of the two parties, which prevented a meeting between Benabdellah and Lachguar. This is all the more surprising as both confirm their dissatisfaction with the difficult economic situation, driven by high prices and the repercussions of the drought.
An unnamed source from the USFP Politburo said his party reacted well to the PPS message, sending a compliant delegation to the subject of the message which talked about studying the country’s economic and social conditions in relation to rising price.
The same source confirmed that the rapprochement between the two parties remains a “requirement and a necessity”, but that the coordination between them must include broader aspects to contribute to the strengthening of their bilateral relations. The two parties have not met in opposition for a long time, which confirms a divergence and disagreement in their respective visions.
