One individual died and 57 people were hurt due to two blasts at a liquified petroleum gas station in the town of Crevedia, near the Romanian capital Bucharest, on Saturday.

The vast majority of those hurt were members of the intervening services. After sustaining severe burns, eight people had to be intubated, the government reported.

Following the initial incident, the flames spread across two fuel containers and a nearby residence. As a result, authorities ordered an evacuation of all individuals within a 700-meter radius, and traffic on the nearby primary road was blocked, according to the Emergency Response Unit (IGSU) of the government.

A second blast happened on Saturday night at the LPG station, harming 26 firefighters, according to Deputy Interior Minister Raed Arafat, who is responsible for the emergency response team.

The flames were brought under control by Sunday morning, and the investigation has been taken over by the prosecutor general.
