Marrakesh landmarks reopen following al-Haouz earthquake

Life is returning to Marrakesh’s historical landmarks after they were officially reopened to citizens and tourists following the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the Al-Houz region a month ago.

An urgent restoration program has allowed visitors to explore Marrakesh’s iconic sites like the Bahia and Badi Palaces, the Saadian Tombs, the Almohad Dome, and the Menara Gardens.

While not fully open to tourists, significant progress has been made in renovating these landmarks, with 80% of the Bahia Palace, 85% of the Badi Palace, and 90% of the Saadian Tombs already restored and reinforced, according to Hassan Hernane, the regional director of the Ministry of Culture for Marrakech-Safi.
