After months of waiting, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares finally announced, on Wednesday, the holding of the high-level meeting between Morocco and Spain on February 1 and 2 with the participation of the President of the Government Spanish, Pedro Sanchez.
Expected therefore in Morocco in the company of a dozen ministers to attend the summit, it is also expected that the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, will be received by King Mohammed VI.
During the press briefing held this Thursday at the end of the Government Council, Mustapha Baitas, government spokesman, was questioned about relations between Morocco and Spain, this high-level meeting as well as the issues that will be discussed there.
In his response, Baitas claimed that “ relations between Morocco and Spain are distinguished, and have experienced a very strong push from King Mohammed VI and the President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez”.
In addition, the spokesperson indicated that there is ” a great desire to work with this collective spirit and in an atmosphere of trust »noting that it is ” sure that many issues will be discussed at this next summit ».
The announcement of the dates of the Morocco-Spain high-level meeting was made yesterday, Wednesday, by the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, who specified that the “ close, important and solid relationship which unites Spain and Morocco will be reinforced during this meeting, ensuring that ” lots of chords will be signed during this visit.
The Spanish minister also underlined that this high-level meeting represents ” a new accomplishment of the roadmap adopted between Morocco and Spain on April 7, during the visit to Morocco of the President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, at the invitation of King Mohammed VI.
In detail, Albares indicated that the Spanish delegation that will be led by President Sánchez will include a dozen ministers. This is also the first high-level meeting held between the two countries since 2015, without there being a crisis. In the past, meetings were usually held once a year or every two years between Morocco and Spain, raises the Spanish press.
But the two neighbors had gone through a health crisis, initially in 2020, hence the postponement of the meeting, then a major diplomatic crisis in 2021, after Morocco discovered the hidden entry of the head of the militia.
