The Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, underlined, on Thursday during her participation in the International Conference on the Environment “Stockholm+50”, Morocco’s proactive commitment and its involvement, under the wise leadership of King Mohammed VI, in international efforts on the environment and sustainable development.
This conference, which is being held on June 2 and 3, 2022 in the Swedish capital under the theme “Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all and all – our responsibility, our chance”, was an opportunity for Ms Benali to highlight the commitment of the Kingdom which is reflected in particular by its adherence to the majority of multilateral agreements on the environment, indicates the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development in a press release.
In this regard, Ms. Benali noted the activation of these agreements at the national level, the establishment of governance at the service of sustainable development, as well as the tangible progress made in terms of integrating sustainability into policies. sectors, thanks to the National Sustainable Development Strategy which aims to promote the transition to an inclusive green economy by 2030.
The minister also mentioned the implementation of major programs in the field of the environment and sustainable development, in addition to the launch by Morocco of a set of ambitious initiatives at the regional level to strengthen the resilience of the African continent. in the face of climate change, like the three climate commissions of the Congo Basin, the Sahel and the Island States.
And to reiterate the Kingdom’s commitment, in particular through its presidency of the Sixth United Nations Environment Assembly, to deploy the necessary efforts with all the parties concerned to translate the commitments entered into into concrete actions, capable of ensure the well-being of present and future generations.
Furthermore, Ms. Benali insisted on the importance of holding this conference in the particular circumstances that the world is currently experiencing, and its social, health, economic and environmental repercussions, stressing the need to act and work to reduce the effects of global environmental crises.
In this sense, she stressed the need to strengthen international cooperation and solidarity to deal with these crises, in particular by promoting access to financing, technology transfer and capacity building, in particular for developing countries.
