Dialogue between trade union centers and the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, on the organic law on the right to strike did not result in an agreement . The trade unions clung to the need to implement the content of the agreement of the ” April 30 before moving on to new questions.
The government-trade union meeting took place on Friday 6 January. Employment and Skills Minister Younes Sekkouri met with a delegation from the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT) while waiting for the rest of the unions. But the central union clung to the need to implement previous agreements, which meant that the meeting lasted no more than an hour.
Thus, the Minister of Economic Inclusion has promised to transmit the trade union demands to the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, while continuing the dialogue until finding a final common ground on the existing differences.
Younes Farachine, CDT member who participated in the meeting with the Minister, reported that the union raised the impossibility of dissociating the social agreement, stressing that the first point discussed during the meeting was related to the fate of the agreement of April 30 before moving on to the discussion on the organic law on the right to strike.
In a statement to MoroccoLatestNewsFarachine felt that ” the time has come for an evaluation session of what has been achieved and what has not been achieved before moving on to new questions”noting that ” the government has not implemented the content of the April 30 agreement, and therefore there is no room for a new discussion on the strike or the right to organize “.
The trade unionist continued that “ the 2023 finance law was passed without any content of the agreement appearing in terms of salary or tax increases “, specifying that” Friday’s meeting brought nothing new despite interactions with the Minister of Labor “.
To conclude, Farachine recalled that last October “the government had agreed with the unions not to withdraw the draft organic law on the right to strike because of institutional considerations” and to put an end to the negotiations at this subject in January 2023.
