The Ministry of Health and Social Protection is launching a national awareness campaign on the importance of screening and early detection of breast and cervical cancer, from October 25 to November 25, 2021.
This action is part of the implementation of the National Cancer Prevention and Control Plan 2020-2029 in order to increase awareness of the importance of prevention and screening for these two types of cancer.
It is also a matter of emphasizing the efforts made by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and its partners, despite the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
During this period, a media campaign will be launched to sensitize the general population and in particular women in the target age groups, on the importance of early detection of breast and cervical cancer.
A set of measures will be taken to facilitate women’s access to screening, early diagnosis and treatment services under good conditions, ensuring compliance with preventive measures against the transmission of Covid-19 as well as strengthening the mobilization of partners, external ministerial departments and non-governmental organizations.
In Morocco, breast cancer is a real public health problem, and it is the most common since it represents around 5 out of 10 cancers in women, diagnosed at very late stages, which delays its therapeutic management and makes difficult his recovery.
Cervical cancer is the second most common form of cancer in Moroccan women. In 2020, it represented 7.2% of new reported cases of cancer, after breast cancer with 38.9, according to reports from the Global Cancer Observatory (GCO), despite a sharp decrease over the years.
