Maghreb Container International has just announced the commissioning, from Friday June 30, 2023, of a shipping line dedicated to the transport of goods by container between the ports of Huelva and Casablanca.
This maritime connection will help promote the commercial flow between the Peninsula and Morocco from the port of Huelva, which in turn will connect to the Mediterranean thanks to the previous stops in the ports of Barcelona and Castellón, among others, specified Puerto de Huelva in its press release.
The President of the Port of Huelva, Alberto Santana, assured that the launch of this container line between the Port of Huelva and Casablanca will respond to the growing demand of the import/export market of goods between Spain and Africa from the North, while offering maritime connectivity with the national Mediterranean, connections that are also of great interest for the hinterland of the Port of Huelva.
In this context, Santana explained that ” this connection between Huelva and Casablanca will generate growth prospects for different productive sectors of the province and the region, and will strengthen the positioning of the port of Huelva as a logistics and intermodal hub in Southwestern Europe“.
During its participation in the Logismed International Transport and Logistics Fair, held from June 13 to 15 in Casablanca, a delegation led by the head of the Commercial and Business Development Department of the Port of Huelva, Jaime Beltrán, accompanied the representatives of the shipping company during meetings held with Moroccan port authorities, terminal operators, exporters, importers, transport and logistics companies, among other potential customers, in order to explain the details of this sea link.
This cabotage line has several advantages. It offers a freight line between Huelva and Casablanca, complements land transport by road by also offering this maritime connection between Huelva and other destinations in northeastern Spain and the Levante region, such as Barcelona and Castellón, among others, thus helping to reduce the load of vehicles on the road, as well as the carbon footprint.
Likewise, in a second phase, it will connect the port of Huelva to other ports in the world as a feeder service in relation to other long-distance maritime services, indicates the same source. Besides, this new service different types of containers such as Box 20″ and 40″, High cube 40″, Pallet Wide High Cube 20″ and 40″, Open Tops 20″ and 40″, Flat Racks 40″, Cages 20″ and 40″, 20″ Tanks, 40″ and 45” Reefers.
Maghreb Container International SL plans to operate this line once a week through the Greta vessel. The Huelva-Casablanca line will be launched in Huelva on Friday, June 30, 2023, after the ship has made a stopover in Barcelona, to continue towards Castellón until arriving in Huelva, from where it will depart again for Casablanca.
