King Mohammed VI receives Antonio Guterres, the Sahara discussed

King Mohammed VI, received, Wednesday, November 23 at the royal palace in Rabat, the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations expressed his gratitude to the King for the success of the 9th forum of the Alliance of Civilizations, which is being held in Fez, and welcomed the adoption of a strong and engaging Declaration, more than never necessary in a troubled international context, says a press release from the royal cabinet.

Antonio Guterres hailed, on this occasion, the sovereign’s permanent commitment to promoting the values ​​of openness, tolerance, dialogue and respect for differences and did not fail to praise the constructive and constant contribution of the Kingdom for the maintenance and consolidation of peace, the strengthening of stability and the promotion of development, particularly in the African continent.

The issue of the Moroccan Sahara was also addressed in the light of United Nations Security Council resolution 2654, adopted on October 27, 2022. In this regard, King Mohammed VI reaffirmed Morocco’s constant position for the settlement of this regional dispute on the basis of the autonomy initiative, within the framework of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom.

The Sovereign reiterated the Kingdom’s support for the efforts of the Secretary General and his Personal Envoy, Stafan De Mistura, for the purpose of conducting the political process, as well as for MINURSO for the observation of the Ceasefire.

This audience took place in the presence, on the UN side, of Miguel Graca, Special Adviser to the Secretary General, and on the Moroccan side, of Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans residing abroad. .
