After the failed sedition attempt targeting King Abdullah II of Jordan on Sunday, the monarch and rebel prince Hamza made their first public appearance to bury the hatchet on the 100th anniversary of the Hashemite monarchy in the country.
The two members of the Jordanian royal family both recited the Surah of the Fatiha, dressed in civilian clothes and the crown prince was at their side, he, dressed in a military suit, according to images broadcast by national television.
All the members of the family, including Uncle Hassan, attended this religious ceremony aimed at paying homage to the hundred years of monarchy in the country. Grouped together in the mausoleum where the three former monarchs of the country, Kings Abdallah I, Talal and Hussein are buried, they commemorated on this date of April 11, the first Hashemite emir of Transjordan.
This is the first public appearance of Prince Hamza, who claimed to be under house arrest after he was accused of being part of a conspiracy to harm the “security” of the state and its ” stability ”.
Jordanian intelligence had followed the prince’s movements and telecommunications for many months, after he openly criticized the government on several occasions.
It was the Jordanian Prime Minister who delivered the details of the case, saying that King Abdullah II wanted to settle this affair in the privacy of the family.
After the rejection of a first attempt at mediation by the inter-army general, the crown prince accepted that coming from his uncle Hassan who, like him, was crown prince for a while before the king passed this title to his son.
At the end of his interview with his uncle Hassan, Prince Hamza issued a signed letter to members of the royal family affirming that he will remain faithful to the legacy of his ancestors, to His Majesty the King as well as to his Heir prince. “I will put myself at their disposal to help and support them,” he wrote, recording the reconciliation with the Hashemite king.
King Abdullah II said on Wednesday that the unprecedented crisis that broke out in the century-old monarchy was “over”, specifying that the implicated Prince Hamza was at home, “under his protection”.
However, he expressed his disappointment and sadness at this attempted sedition from his own family. “I cannot describe what I felt as shock, pain and anger as a brother and guardian of the Hashemite family and as a leader of this dear people,” he told national television in a message read on his behalf.
“Hamza is today with his family in his palace, under my protection. He pledged before the (Hashemite) family to follow the path of his parents and grandparents, to be true to their message and to place the interests of Jordan, its Constitution and its laws in the- above all other considerations, ”he added.
