England international center-back John Stones has extended his contract at Manchester City until 2026, the England club announced on Tuesday.
Stones, who arrived in 2016 from Everton for £ 47m (EUR 55m), was initially afraid of losing his place and then formed a top-flight duo last season with Ruben Dias, until the final of the Champions League lost against Chelsea by a certain Hakim Ziyech.
Referring to his coach, Spaniard Pep Guardiola, John Stons said: “Working with the manager is a dream, he taught me so much about the game and I feel that I am learning something every day”.
For his part, City sporting director Txiki Begiristain believes that Stones is “an exceptional footballer and a fantastic defender, whose qualities go well with our style of play. He has matured a lot in the last five years here” .
Stones, 27, also started all of England’s Euro matches, until the lost final at Wembley against Italy.
